Children experiment with the kind of person they can become through the make-believe play. (Berk, 2001). Initiative can develops if the parents support the child’s new sense of motive and direction. In contrast, if the parents put too much self-control and criticized upon the children, it can lead to over control that can make the children feel guilty in most of their actions. Virtue of purpose can be lead if this stage is passed successfully.
6 to 11 years (industry vs inferiority) During this stage, children will develop numerous skills to themselves such as write, read and to do sums teach by their teachers. If the encouragement were given to the child’s initiative, they will start to feel industrious or competence. On the other hand, the negativity experiences by children at home, school or with peers can leads to the inferiority feeling. In short, the virtue of competence will gain if this stage is success.
