It is the very driving force that motivates a citizen to voluntarily join the Army in a time of war. It is the same force that give Soldiers the courage to face danger and be willing to die for their comrades.
The Army profession is one that is dedicated to the service of the American people, and as such must earn their trust and respect through self-policing. For this reason, Soldiers and leaders must constantly be aware of their actions. The Army effectively does this by prescribing a set of values, codes of conduct, creeds, and culture that clearly define which behaviors are permissible and which are not.
