The purpose of the social was to help the rookies (new members) get to know and bond with the veterans (old members), and every year, it has been successful in doing so. Individuals ended up forging close bonds with each during and after the social. Also, I am currently the Brotherhood
Chair for my Lambda pledge class, so going in, I have a good idea of what kinds of events I would plan.
I feel like the most difficult thing about Brotherhood Chair is getting every brother together at once. Despite there only being 27 current active members in the fraternity, there are also inactive members, pre-alumni, alumni, and (on occasion) pledges who should be able to attend the events. However, not everyone’s schedules line up perfectly. A way to ensure that every brother has the opportunity to improve their brotherhood is to plan more small brotherhood events. What do you consider to be your most meaningful contribution to Colleges Against Cancer during the 2015-16 year? I think I consider my participation in Relay for Life event as the most meaningful contribution that I have made to Colleges Against Cancer during the school year. I was not able to attend Tuesday meetings especially on winter quarter because of a job I had that needed me on Tuesday nights. However, this did not hinder me to constantly communicate to my other committee members. When time permitted this spring, I actively participated during Tuesday meetings, some of the flyering weeks, the production for Relay props, and the event itself.…

While some people may think of event management as a degree in party planning, it is gaining credibility as a legitimate career. The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council created event management standards which also led to the definition of exactly what an event is (Robertson, 2015). An event is “a social form that organizes interaction in a distinctive way” or the “gathering of three or more people who agree to assemble for a purpose ostensibly related to the functioning of an organization or group” (Beaulie, 2004). According to Michael Auerbach, “in 2006 there were 51,000 event planners in the U.S. and 39% of those were within an event planning company” which demonstrates the grand size of the industry and its obvious importance to society (2015). The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in event planning.…
