To maintain the survival of Cuba's economy due to the different blockades they had to push for a political reform. In the 50’s the United States had an outstanding relationship with Cuba and played a great role in its economy. During the revolution of 1559, Batista was overthrown has dictator, the cuban government nationalized all American products. The cold war increased the relations between the Soviet Union and Cuba with the trade of sugar. With the disappearance of the Soviet Union in Cuba the economy began to fail. The GPD in cuba reduced by 32% in 1989. To take care of this crisis they established a “special period” and adopted a survival economic policy. 70% of state owned land were organized in cooperatives and foreign investments were incentives.
