Essay Why Female Athletes Should Be Paid

They can run as far, jump as high, and play for as long as male athletes. Why then are female athletes paid so much less than males? Women athletes should be paid similar salaries to their male counterparts.

Salaries for professional athletes should be based on their performance and a reflection of the hard work they put into training. Female athletes put in the same amount of time and effort as men, if not more. For example, Alex Morgan trains twice a day for three to four hours. Her annual salary is $450,000. Cristiano Ronaldo also trains for 3-4 hours everyday. His annual salary is $21 million. They both devote their entire lives to soccer and put in the same amount of work, yet there is an enormous difference in their salaries.

Women athletes also accomplish the same achievements as men, but their pay is significantly less. For example, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team won two million dollars for winning the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Germany’s men’s soccer team won the 2014 World Cup and received thirty five million dollars. The U.S. men’s soccer team was awarded nine million dollars and finished in eleventh place. There is a

Women athletes should not have to find other ways to make a living, their salary should be enough. Male athletes do not struggle with the same issue. Overall, female athletes should be paid similar salaries to their male

If women play with male athletes then society will see how important equality is and how women should be treated equally just like how men are treated. The site states, “Gender equality in sports has always been a controversial topic. This shows how gender equality is important for all sexes and even for women athletes. To this day all rights are not equal between men and women, but if more women would speak up or if women athletes start playing with male athletes than maybe society will notice that women are strong enough and powerful enough to make a change in this world and that we deserve more than what we have and deserve equal rights that men have and women don’t.…
