Juveniles are being treated as adults. For example, sometimes they don't even know that their actions are not acceptable and that they are a crime. An 8 or 10 year old will not know that hurting someone physically or killing them is a crime and they end up in jail. There are few programs that help children understand the difference between good and bad in the juvenile court. They also teach what behavior is acceptable in society and what not. Juveniles should not be held in a detention facility unless they are proven guilty of something very serious because the system inside is very harsh. A 15year old girl was held in a detention facility for false accusations and was continuously being tortured by the staff mentally and physically. When the charges were finally dropped, she was admitted to a hospital for mental therapy. A lot of child advocates treat juveniles very harshly. They are abused mentally and physically. They are tortured at a very young age, resulting in the rehabilitation program doing more harm than good.
