In this reflection paper, the NASW Code of Ethics that governs the behavior of social worker to ensure objectivity and effectiveness in their duties of alleviating the conditions that instigate harm and suffering, along with its importance to the social workers is described. Also, a particular ethical code is explained in relation to why it is of certain personal interest. Lastly, individual thoughts on the NASW Code of Ethics, particularly with respect to the how it enlightens the personal comprehension of social work practice, are presented.

Beginning with the ethical responsibilities to clienteles, social workers are required to be committed and loyal in promoting clients’ well-being by prioritizing the latter’s interest. Secondly, it is the ethical responsibility of social workers to help clients in identifying and clarifying their goal. This is along with promoting and respecting clients’ right to self-determination, provided the actions or probable actions of clients do not pose serious, predictable, and impeding risk to social workers and other society entities. Social workers are also required to harness clients’ consent by using an understandable language, and demonstrate competency to clients within their certification, educational, licensure, and training boundaries. Also, it is their responsibility to be responsive to clients’ cultural and social diversities during service provision, and to preserve their impartial judgment and professional discretion by shirking conflict of interests. It is the ethical responsibility of social workers to avoid using social conflicts between colleague as a pretext to exploit and manipulate them. Furthermore, social workers are ethically responsibly for fittingly referring clients to colleagues whose professional expertise is needed for absolute client satisfaction. Social workers should also refrain from sexual harassment and relationships with colleagues, discourage fellows from unethical conduct, and offer structural assistance support to colleagues with impairment and incompetency.
