One example of ethnocentric values might be that of those cultures who believe it not is acceptable to transfer blood between two people, even during medical distress. This may hinder nursing care as nurses may face the moral and ethical dilemma of being involved in trying to save an individual’s life through professional responsibility, or advocating for a patient’s cultural values, ultimately risking the patient’s life. This decision is weighed heavily as one must determine which value is of more importance and then deal with the consequences that may follow.
