Ruff from the Honors Program Liberty University 2015, “ any physical maltreatment, emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children is considered abuse. It results in actual or potential harm to a child's health, survival development, or dignity. There are four types of child abuse: sexual, physical, emotional/psychological, and neglect” (“Long-Term Treatment of Child Abuse”). Some of the major points are new beginnings and an escape from her father. Eveline also did not want to repeat the choices that her mother made by staying, not only with an abusive alcoholic, but letting her children endure the same pain. She believes that leaving will give her a fresh start and it will be great. What she does not realize is that with leaving she is in an area where she does not know. A tongue she does not know. With a man she does not know. This is all exemplified in her responses to getting on the boat “put quote here about the fear” this quote shows that when it came down to it, she was fearful of the stranger she was about to give her life
