The American society today has no idea where their food comes from. Most believe the propaganda that corporations use to portray their food is still farm grown. Meaning that food doesn’t come from factories and slaughter houses but are raised and grown on open green pastures with the sun always shining. In truth meat is a process of selective breeding and strict formalized procedures used to optimize the product. Many animals are confined to a small crowded pin to optimize the space used on these new age farms. Then they are fed high fat foods that they would never naturally eat in the wild, to achieve a peak growth of an enlarged condition. This entire market is cornered by a handful of corporations who have now nearly monopolized their product. These corporations even regulate their own product, “In 1972, the FDA conducted approximately 50,000 food safety inspections. In 2006, the FDA conducted 9,164”(Food, Inc.). Corporations govern what society eats and what is deemed safe to eat. They have controlled society by replacing and absorbing the small markets and producers so that they have complete reign over products sold worldwide. Modern corporations use advertising specifically towards children to begin consuming at an early age. Companies are building the population to become the perfect customer for their corporate profit. Now more than ever modern corporation strive to make society an environment to promote consumerism. Going to such lengths as to “create a television program for the sole purpose of selling a toy”(Consuming Kids). Brave New World has their own formula to instill consumption in their citizens at a young age. Authorities have the power and means to impose traits in young childrens and infants for what they would like and will like later on in life. They made it so that their citizens will consume the products they want them to buy. This became evident in the book when the government found that making their citizens love the outdoors alone consumed transportation but nothing else. So to effectively create the perfect consumer the Brave New World’s government “conditioned the masses to hate the country... But simultaneously we conditioned them to love all country sports. At the same time… all country sports shall entail elaborate apparatus. So that they consume manufactured articles as well as transportation”(31).
