Examples Of Empathy In Nursing

Improved Essays
Hard working and empathy are two strengths that I believe will help me excel in your nursing program. I believe that both of these traits are very important for a nursing student and in a nurse. Two weaknesses that feel are my weaknesses is procrastination and hesitant.
The first strength that I believe will help me succeed in the nursing program is that I am hard working. I strive to do all thing to the best of my ability. When I was young I read the bible verse Colossians 3:23 which says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” From that day forward I chose to do my absolute best at what every task I received because I knew I was not doing it for myself or for other people but for the Lord. I also believe that

I always look up to the bible verse Luke 6:31 which says, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” I try to see situations from their perspective and put myself in the person’s shoes thinking if I was in their situation how would I want to be treated. I think that being empathetic will help me in the nursing program by allowing me to better relate to the patients and anticipate their needs and wants.
My first weakness, procrastination, is something that I have struggled with for a while. I plan on overcoming it by learning to stick to a schedule, planning my day better, and starting the task as soon as it comes up. I intend to commit to the task at hand and focus on doing and not avoiding.
My second weakness is being hesitant in making big decisions. This is also something that I have struggled with at work and in my personal life. I find that one of the reasons that I am hesitant is because I do not know all of the information necessary to feel comfortable making a big decision. I plan to overcome being hesitant by becoming more knowledgeable and getting advice from people who have experience in the situations. I believe that if I have more experience I will become comfortable with making decisions in school and in my personal

Argumentative Essay Empathy is something that everyone has stumbled across in their lives before, and regardless of the feelings you have towards others, you have the slightest bit of it. In her essay “Empathy: What We Need Now,” Ariana Huffington explains the importance of Empathy, and why the world would be such a better place if everyone would contribute as they should. Huffington relays the experiences of past Philanthropist such as Andrew Carnegie, and John D. Rockefeller, and how their wealth played major roles in society. I have been in the dental field for over 20 years and repeatedly I have seen the same challenges transpire, patients not coming back in for treatment and getting lost in the system. This usually happens when the patient becomes overwhelmed by the treatment plan and do not understand where they need to start. These patients then become the ones that only come in for emergency treatments to get out of pain. In the video, Empathy: The Human Connection to Patient Care, it pointed out that as medical providers, we become desensitized to the people we are treating (Cleveland Clinic, 2013). This usually happened when the office is busier than usual, the schedule is over booked, or the office is running short on staff, causing patient to slip through…

I might not be first in my class, or I might not always get the best grades in the class, but I always have that determination to work hard to be the best that I can possibly be. When I wake up in the morning and look at myself in the mirror, I always want to be able to tell myself that I will and have done the best that I can. Another strength of mine would have to be that I am well organized. I like to have all my academic school work organized, which I believe also helps me cope with time management. Being well organized, makes getting my school work done efficiently and due on time possible by knowing when my assignments are due, and where my assignments are, rather than losing track of my work which may take extra time out of my day to find that information, which ultimately gives myself less time to study and get the most out of my education.…

The two weaknesses that I am fully aware of and take steps to work on every day are my communication with others, I tend to be shy at first, and asking for help. I have come a very long way in my life with how shy I am. When I was in kindergarten I would not even answer a question in class, when called on I would lean over to my only friend in the class and whisper the answer so she would answer for me. I have worked very hard to overcome this, I am nowhere near as shy, but I find myself reverting back slightly sometimes when in new situations. I am able to talk to strangers and patients that I just met like I have known them all my life, but when it comes to people I know I will be spending quite a bit of time with I tend to be quiet for a while until getting to know them very well.…

Being reluctant to improvise could be a strength for me by my patients knowing that I will stick to the books and I would not do or try anything I was not comfortable with doing. Having the need to have constant acknowledgment is a strength in itself. I will always be trying harder and looking for that recognition from my superiors. Concerning the fact that I neglect my own needs, I will never have my doctors question my priorities because they will already know that I will be doing everything I possibly can. Having weaknesses isn’t always a negative in my case because this will only push me to be better and work…

I always try my best in everything I do because I believe that the best preparation for tomorrow is doing my best today. I remember when I was young I always procrastinate things which results me to pass an “Okay na ‘yan, basta meron” kind of work. That attitude leads to a life full of comparison. I was being compared with my brother and classmates. Even if I was an honor student, people always told me that I am far below from my brother (who is also an honor student) and my other classmates are better, nicer, smarter, and other painful comparisons.…
