The first strength that I believe will help me succeed in the nursing program is that I am hard working. I strive to do all thing to the best of my ability. I always look up to the bible verse Luke 6:31 which says, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” I try to see situations from their perspective and put myself in the person’s shoes thinking if I was in their situation how would I want to be treated. I think that being empathetic will help me in the nursing program by allowing me to better relate to the patients and anticipate their needs and wants.
My first weakness, procrastination, is something that I have struggled with for a while. I plan on overcoming it by learning to stick to a schedule, planning my day better, and starting the task as soon as it comes up. I intend to commit to the task at hand and focus on doing and not avoiding.
My second weakness is being hesitant in making big decisions. This is also something that I have struggled with at work and in my personal life. I find that one of the reasons that I am hesitant is because I do not know all of the information necessary to feel comfortable making a big decision. I plan to overcome being hesitant by becoming more knowledgeable and getting advice from people who have experience in the situations.
