In recent days, there has been many problems come to surface over gun control. From Sandy Hook, Columbine, Orlando and Colorado, many people feel we need to do something about these shootings. Some believe that that the way to solve this is to ban firearms altogether, and others feel we should arm every citizen. I think that a happy middle would be a great way to start. The firearm ban from 1994 had little to no noticeable effect because it left normal law abiding citizens unable to arm themselves and criminals (surprisingly) still didn't heed the law.…

In many cases Tasers have been used on people who pose no threat to themselves or others which supports the point that they are not used in self-defence, but to enforce obedience and to torture police captives. Media reports and research shows that Tasers are not only being exposed against individuals who display no threat but also on children, pregnant women and elderly people (Ryan 2008). An example of police officers using Tasers in a harmful form was reported by Dennis Eggstion from the Western Australia Aboriginal Legal Service, who stated that in 2010 there were several Taser attacks on aboriginal people. The attack included a young pregnant woman who was Tasered several times whilst being 6 months into her pregnancy and an aboriginal man who was Tasered between the eyes who caught fire and suffered serious burns (Benedik…

Such weapons include baton sticks, pepper spray, and tear gas. However, if someone has a health issue, such as a heart problem, then the use of a taser could instantly become fatal. “Law professor Donald E. Wilkes, Jr. and lawyer Lauren Farmer analyzed police and media reports of stun gun incidents and concluded that at least 618 deaths had been caused by police Taser use between 2001 and 2013.…

Tasers would make a great non-lethal weapon that should be used more than lethal force. Furthermore, Journalist Resource states, “Use of Tasers and other CEDs can reduce the statistical rate of injury to suspects and officers who might otherwise be involved in more direct, physical conflict — an analysis of 12 agencies and more than 24,000 use-of-force cases “showed the odds of suspect injury decreased by almost 60% when a CED was used”(Wihbey and Kille). Wihbey and Kille demonstrate how effective Tasers can be to reduce suspect injuries significantly. When they use the word “analysis” it appeals to ethos and logos which convince the readers that Tasers and CEDs can possibly stop police brutality.
