You don’t want to be justified. You want Honoria’ (Fitzgerald, 1931). As I watched the movie and read the story, I could not help but feel sympathy for both men. I truly find it interesting that these two were written by F. Scott Fitzgerald as well because he seems to build a sense of sympathy for both characters. Gatsby builds his fortune by copying liquor and should be seen as the bad guy in the eyes of the viewer, but instead, I noticed to have sided myself with Gatsby the whole way. And the same goes for Wales, he was a drunk and practically messed up his whole life and it is his fault he lost his daughter but when he was denied custody of his daughter I could not help but mourn for him. I, also personally can relate to the characteristics these two share because I have been in that state where I had to change a certain part of my lifestyle to overcome a goal but I always believe that change is for the better. I can still agree with that statement because Gatsby did it for love and if love is what motivates him to become a better man then kudos to him. And Wales changed himself for the better, not only for his own well-being but for the sake of his relationship with his daughter
