I didn’t really realize what I was getting into at the time, but I talked to my parents and my Ag teachers and they all told me that it would be an amazing opportunity for me to grow as a person, FFA member, and as a leader. I received the written approval from my parents and teachers and all that was left was the test, interview, and speech. The test and interview were scheduled for the same day for all the districts in our area, which includes Daingerfield District, Mineola District, Paris District, and Longview District, plus our Area Officer’s test and interview. That experience was so intimidating, I had no idea who anyone was, my Ag teacher left me because she had to interview other district's candidates, and then my phone died, so it wasn't going very well for me at this point. I went in to take my test and did well. Then went in for the interview and was confident that i did well as well, and now all that was left was to give my speech. I practiced that speech for weeks before the day of the District Convention finally came. I surprisingly kept more or less calm the whole time until it was actually time for me to get on stage and persuade these people, in which I had never met before, to vote for me. But this too was a success
