The theme of Fate in Romeo and Juliet is widely discussed. Romeo and Juliet believed that they were not in control of what happened to them. They thought that everything that was going to happen to them was out of their control, and that their actions did not affect the way that their lives would turn out. Romeo himself even mentions “hanging in the stars” when he is talking about his fate. When Romeo mentions this idea, he is implying that his consequences are just waiting to happen. Romeo and Juliet believed that what was to happen to them was bound to happen, so they did not think about their consequences. Romeo also says that he will “defy the stars”, meaning that he will go against fate. This did not turn out in his favor. Because of the fact that Romeo and Juliet were both looking for love, their passion was extraordinary, and there was no separating them. They were both looking for love because of the fact that Romeo was trying to get over Rosaline, and Juliet was trying to find a way out of marrying Paris.
