To accomplish this, nurses can individualize the plan of care while the patient is hospitalized and customize discharge instructions specific to their illness and social situation. Generational diversity and the nursing shortage refers to the age difference in nurses causing different values and priorities in the work environment ultimately affecting nurse retention (Huber, 2014). Nurse Managers have to address this by trying to meet the needs of both generations in order to avoid a nursing shortage. The office I managed had nurses in their 30’s and nurses in their 60’s. Applying the AEIOU Model As a new initiative in the urology procedural unit I recently started working for, management had devised a new procedural flow study with the aim to improve time management for nurses and overall waiting time for patients in the urology department. The current waiting times for patients were about one to one and a half hours to be seen by a physician and three to four hours’ total visit time. About three quarters of the nurses on my team had been working in the unit for about twenty-years plus. Many of them were not pleased with the proposed unit flow study and feared that the study results will demand unnecessary unit changes regarding the way procedural rooms were set up and run by nurses. Management was equally…

In the modern health care profession there is a great amount of both civility and incivility that occurs amongst those who provide care for those in need. The acts of incivility that occur within those who work in these environments can lead to tension between the workers and an overall unsuccessful workday. Incivility is a negative act that needs to be addressed within each individual that is a part of today’s society.…

When CNAs are committed and happy with their job, it is easier for them toplease the residents. Judith A. et al. (2010) also emphasises how interpersonal relationships need to be without conflict in order for patients to get the highest level of care. She questions about how they are able to remain empathetic and caring towards patients, when they themselves are being treated poorly by their colleagues. Some were found to have decided to leave their training as they found it too overwhelming, others decided to progress to qualification, these students often went on to re-enacting this behaviour towards future students learning under their supervision. Not only is this lack of support evident amongst student nurses but also amongst the newly qualified staff nurses, where increased workloads and a higher demand on them professionally (Thyrsoe L. et.…
The first several years of practice are very important to help in building confidence for nurses; however, many new nurses encounter the same situation than Natalie did and are subjected to a different range of unprofessional behaviors from coworkers that weaken their confidence and self-esteem. These kind of behaviors can raise the nurses’ stress and frustration, increase the occurrence of medical errors, and jeopardize patient safety and quality of care. Pervasiveness of conflict in the nursing workforce between experienced nurses and new graduates is something that we experience in most of our organizations. In Natalie’s case her two coworkers are struggling for power and feel threatened by her advanced degree; which is creating conflicts…
