What is the demographic make-up of the classroom (gender, grade, age level, ELL students, SPED students)? Inside of this first grade classroom at Springdale Elementary, there are now a total of twenty-two students. Since the first observation, one student has transferred out of Springdale Elementary. Out of the twenty-two students, all twenty-two are of African-American descent. Also every student in this classroom is between the ages of six and seven. In total, there are fourteen boys and eight girls in this classroom. It was also noted that none of the students in this classroom are reported as being an English Language Learner. Wolfe, was going to be teaching to the students that day. Due to absences that day in the class, this lesson was taught in front of eighteen students, with ten boys and eight girls. To begin her lesson, Mrs. Wolfe started straight after their morning meeting. All of the students were already situated on the carpet, so she was able to move almost flawlessly from the meeting straight into the lesson about commands. Mrs. Wolfe started out her lesson with the following question: “What is a command?” Since this was a new concept to the students no one replied, and Mrs. Wolfe went on to tell them that a command is a statement that tells you to do something.
