Field Observation: Improving Team Performance

Results: From observing all three participants towards the end of this study. All three participants shown to show reliable and favorable results. Interventions (verbal and oral feedback showed to quite effective) as the percentage of field goals to more likely to be made when comparing to baseline. Both Joshua and Sam showed to do very well in the beginning of the baseline phase. They were hitting the ball very well, until both coincidently did a wrong step (Joshua) or pulled it right (Sam) begin to second guessing or weren’t as focused when kicking field goals. Josh started off rusty in the baseline phase but going into its 3 session, he began to slightly show concentration and improve. During intervention, appraisals were given when field goals were made but more importantly when kickers missed field goals, they were given encouragement, kicking advice, recommendations which drastically helped the performance of field goals being made in both intervention phases. For example, in recent weeks when the NFL broke the record for the most missed extra points in a week (11). Also, because I was also a kicker for my high school football team. I know what it takes to become a kicker and the phases you face being one. Being a good kicker takes a lot more than just skill. It drives majority from the mental aspect. Which unfortunately, majority of the kickers do not have a form grasp on. Ways to help kickers develop a strong mentality when it comes to kicking during pressure situations, would be to boost the confidence/self-esteem to the player.
