The programs consist of Emergency Food Boxes, The Community Kitchen, Ck Catering, Child Nutrition Programs, Hunger Heroes, and The Mobile Pantry. The Mobile Pantry is an extension of the emergency food box program and gives individuals, who live in rural areas the opportunity to receive food boxes by bringing them to these communities. Once a month on a Wednesday, a St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance truck will be parked outside a selected school, which would be filled with pallets of nutritious food and will be giving them out to deserving families within that community. Even though, this particular program has increased to over 30 sites in both rural and urban neighborhoods it is unfortunately the lowest funded program St Mary’s offers, so with your gracious donation of $75,000 we will be able to expand our highly demanded services to more than 35 other neighborhoods, just to display how much our program can impact a person’s life, I would like to you present you with a testimonial from one of our clients. Mable, who once worked in the Non-Profit Sector as a food bank coordinator, is now a retiree that supports her husband and grandson on a $500 income, causing her to rely on St. Mary’s Mobile Pantry at Kaibab Estates West, in the rural Ash Fork area.…

Kids across the nation are standing out and making a difference. Whether its just picking up around the community or starting a foundation people can make a difference. Many people think kids are just in the way and don’t ever actually make a difference in their community. Blare Gooch started with a teddy bear, Alex Scott started with a cup of lemonade, and Zach Hunter started with a few pennies around his house. The smallest things can turn into a life changing difference.…
Early this year, my grandmother became very ill and required around the clock attention. My family and I wanted to make sure she was taken care of physically, but we also wanted to make sure her meals were healthy and nutritious. Through word of mouth, I heard about the Meals on Wheels program that just happened to be in my county. I contacted the site manager and the next day, the agency started to deliver meals to my grandmother’s home. We were so grateful because we could concentrate on other things besides cooking.…
The appeal “ Living Hungry in a Jobless America” speaks to primarily to parents living in the United States (target audience). Given the appeal addresses the issue of children who suffer from hunger, people who have children of their own would mostly relate to it. The appeal claims to solve the problem of children’s hunger in the United States; It aims not only to raise awareness about the issue, but convince people to presumably donate money or time in order to solve it. The clients who would directly benefit from the organization’s activities are the kids themselves and their families who are already suffering from hunger due to tough economical and financial situation.…
For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…
Introduction Initial Problem Hunger has been an issue in the city of Saginaw for many years. As an effort to help diminish the numbers of hunger, low income, and poverty, local churches would organize can food, clothing, and basic needs drives. As a community, it is our responsibility to help our surrounding neighbors and community members. The pastor, Danny Howe, at First Baptist Church of Saginaw once said, “we must start locally to end hunger globally.”…
As hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans everyday face the threat of hunger, the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s primary mission is to not only holistically address this issue across the city, but also work collaboratively with public schools, individuals and other partners in the area to combat food insecurity. Along with food drives and orchestral concerts that this organization participates in annually, one of the most important events that the Chicago Food Depository runs is the 31st Annual Hunger Walk on Saturday, June 25 at Chicago's beautiful and historic Jackson Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. These funds raised by the Hunger Walk support a local network of food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters combating hunger across Cook County.…
The Army behind The Army Although I have never been in the position of needing others’ help, I have seen fellow classmates be there. The Salvation Army started off as a small evangelistic group trying to get relief to others in multiple areas, but it has now become a household name. Some people rely on this special group to get by, while others rely on them during certain times of the year like Christmas and Thanksgiving. People throughout our local area are to account for the help to be able to make this organization do what it needs to for the community. From feeding the homeless and clothing men, women, and children, to helping find shelters and jobs, the Salvation Army has proven to be a national relief center for communities around the world.…
Ever since I was a little fourth grader at Brookview Elementary, I have been heavily involved with the Boone Progressors 4-H club in Dallas County. I have been an active member of my club by holding offices as part of the leadership team. Over my years in 4-H, I have been our club’s photographer, secretary, vice president and our current president. I have also helped plan our club’s activities and service projects. Some of our service projects have included Meals from the Heartland, Operation Christmas Child, Adopt-A-Family, picking up walnuts in the yards of elderly in Waukee, making Christmas and Valentine’s Day cards for residents at Waukee retirement homes - amongst many others.…
I’m running back and forth, from Thailand to Tibet, Guatemala to the Urban Slums. At least, The Heifer “Global International Education” versions of these places. Our school had visited Heifer to learn more about poverty, and about each other. But, we got more than we were asking for. Tonight was the night my older siblings had told me about.…

According to www.feedingamerica.com, over 1 in 4 households (26.1%), are impoverished or food insecure. I understand this topic, because if people realize it or not, it affects many of my educational counterparts.…
