Gabriel Iglesias Research Paper

Gabriel Iglesias was born Gabriel Jesus Iglecias on July 15, 1976 in San Diego, California. His mother placed a letter "c" in his surname in retaliation for his father's absence during his birth, though he does not use this spelling in his everyday life, preferring to use the one with the "s". He grew up in Riverside, Corona, Santa Ana and Compton before settling in Long Beach. It was during his childhood that he developed a strong sense of humour to overcome the obstacles he faced such as bullies, bad grades, and a conflicting household. Before pursuing his comedic dreams, Gabriel worked for a cell phone company in L.A. His family members tried to get him to stay working there for his financial security, but he insisted that he try his hand at comedy. When both occupations proved too difficult to keep up with, he decided to take the risk and start doing comedy full time. All was not good after his comedic success however. In The Fluffy Movie, Iglesias describes how at his heaviest, which he states was 445 pounds, he was diagnosed with Type Two Diabetes, and with his blood sugar spiking to over 300 regularly, was given two years to live by his doctor. He said the shock of being told he had two years to live prompted him to reevaluate how he took care of himself. He explained that he decided to lose weight in order to insure his continued presence in the lives of his loved ones. Iglesias described the struggle to incorporate a healthier lifestyle, remembering how he was told by a specialist that his heavy touring schedule precluded him from being a candidate for a surgery to remove some of the fat, and how he resorted instead to weight-lifting, high-intensity yoga, and a high-protein, low-carb diet, which helped him shed over 100
