Alice Paul was born January 11, 1885 by her parents William and Tacie Paul (Rebecca). Alice’s father was the President of Burlington Trust Company, giving Alice a much more luxurious life (Rebecca). They had lived on a farm, and any other kid would’ve had to do chores, but because her father was so successful they hired people to do all of those chores, whether it be farm work or house chores. Even though they didn’t have to perform many laboring tasks they were still taught the idea that you need to work in order to better your society and community. Their parents didn’t only teach them that. Another idea that she had her parent teach her was the idea of equality (Rebecca). The idea that all people were equal no matter their gender, and that both genders should get the same equal rights. In order to get an idea of how big their farm is, it was measured to be around 265 acres which is equivalent to one kilometer of land …show more content…
This forced Alice to speak using words like “thee” and “thy”, only when talking to other Quakers however. Alice Paul as a child went to a Hicksite school open New Jersey (Rebecca). Alice at this school was also taught about gender equality. They didn’t see gender and they saw this as their normal way of living, mostly because it was part of their religion. This kind of upbringing, however, wasn’t seen as normal as during that time men had more rights than women, and women didn’t even have the right to vote. Alice wasn’t taught any other principles and didn’t realize that women at the time were treated unequally compared to men. Also, the things that women were taught mostly related to house chores, but not in this school, everyone was taught the same things and Alice even finished first in her class (Rebecca).
