Genghis Khan: Prominent Leader With a Long Lasting Legacy Genghis Khan, undeniably was one of the greatest and most effective leaders who also left a highly regarded legacy in history. Mongol leader Genghis Khan rose from humble beginnings to establish the largest land empire in history. At the peak of his empire Genghis Khan controlled between 11 and 12 million contiguous square miles of land. Khan’s brilliant rule exemplifies just how a ruler should lead his people and how to leave a good legacy for future generations to admire.

The Mongols first conquest outside of their empire came about against the Xi Xia, a kingdom in northwest China.
One of the Mongols signature tactics was deploying a false withdrawal, which the displayed in their raid on the Xi Xia.
The Mongols then attacked the Jin Dynasty of northern China whose ruler had made the mistake of demanding Genghis Khan’s submission.
The Mongols defeated the Jin Dynasty and the Jin ruler gave over large amounts of silk, silver, gold, and horses.
When the Jin ruler moved his court south of Kaifeng, Khan took it as a breach in their agreement, and then,with the help of Jin deserters, sacked Zhongdu to the ground.
Genghis Khan later goes to war with the Khwarezm Empire, where the sultan agreed on a trade treaty, but the Mongols killed the first boat of merchants and stole their goods.

Khan’s Genetic Legacy
DNA study showed 16 million men in former Mongol empire carried a genetic marker that advanced in a family in Mongolia over 1,000 years ago. Only reasonable clarification to this would be they descended from Genghis Khan or his brothers.
