George said “don’t” to when lennie started to drink the water, and showed his adamant stand on the topic. For George, Lennie is like a little kid. He does not know what is good for him, and what is wrong for him. So it is Georges job to guide Lennie thru the world, to make him aware of what is good for him, and what is bad for him. Lennie here is shown to think of George as the adult, as someone you should always listen to. This is because he knows better, and if Lennie listens to him he will get something out of it. Like a child listens to his parents as they know better, Lennie listens to george as George knows better, From this, we are demonstrated that even though you might not be related to somebody, you can still love them as if they were related to you. Children look up to their parents as people who can help them, and make them understand the world better. Parents know what is for the best, and children try to follow this logic. Parents also know that they have a responsibility to teach their child these ideas, so that they can live good lives. In the book, it states “Got used to each other after a while” (12) George and Lennie are two different people with different personalities. They both have different wants, like siblings. Siblings are never the same. They are different, and need different things. But all siblings have that one idea that connects them. For George and Lennie, this idea is the dream that they both have. It took “a while” for George and Lennie to “get used to each other” and to find this one idea. Throughout the story, both George and Lennie are shown to always be bickering. Lennie would do something and then George would come and reprimand him. Lennie would deny doing the action, but George would always see that he was lying. This is identical how a big brother would treat his little brother. The older one would notice that the younger one was doing something bad, and he would try to correct his mistakes for the future.
