He did a variety of different paintings that displayed the effect that the abstracted geometric shapes and planes had on the Cubists. In 1920 there was a very important exhibition in Pretoria where Pierneef had more than 300 paintings in numerous mediums.
His extremely unique and individual style will always be state-of-the-art when assessing African landscape paintings.
Materials/Mediums:
Pierneef was taught the graphic mediums like etching and linocuts by an Irish artist named George Smithard. He also inspired Pierneef to create his own South African style of painting.
