The Archduke was killed by Serbian Nationalists known as the Blank Hand, who sought a pan-slavic country. This assassination started a diplomatic crisis. This then led to Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia, which then brought in many allies to help fight. Overall, the assassination was the spark World War I, by creating a conflict and then making it grow into something…
In the early 1800s alliances were introduced to hold peace in Europe, but ended up leading more war. Otto von Bismarck mainly used war to ‘unify’ Germany and keep peace all over Europe. In this, he thought France wanted revenge and no peace, so he formed a Dual Alliance with Austria-Hungary; Italy later joined along with them creating the Triple Alliance. After this, Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914. Russia then decided to join and team with Serbia against Austria-Hungary for an attack.…
Germany sided with Austria-Hungary, while Russia sided with the Serbians. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia with the back-up of Germany on July 28 1914. As Russia was partnered with the Serbians, Germany took that as an excuse to declare war on Russia. Germany declared war on Russia on August 1, and then France on August 3, as France was allied with Russia. Germany was the main aggressor in the lead up and throughout WW1.…
David Fromkin argues in his book Europe’s Last Summer that Germany would manipulate the events leading up to WW1 for a war to have Austria as an ally. A major component to this argument is the idea that WW1 started with a minor war in Serbia against Austria and Germany gaining Austrian assistance to help them in their war against Russia. (Fromkin, pg271-273))…
World War I was a significant and greatly corrosive war because it took everything away from the Germans, causing their economy to gradually decline, and eventually leading to the beginning of World War II. The immediate cause of World War I was the assassination of Austria-Hungary's Archduke, Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary believed that the Serbians were the reprehensible group for committing this act because they knew Serbia was angered by the upcoming annexation of territories they believe should be theirs. After the assassination, chaos began to set in as countries allied together and, in a confusing sequence of events, declared war on other countries for their own personal reasons and benefits.…
Together they came up with a mutual decision that they would support Austria-Hungary. The Germans wanted to use the situation as a way to warn Europe that they were prepared to go to war if their demands were not met. “Beginning in 1915, Germany had started a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, meaning they sunk any and all ships that crossed the Atlantic, even neutral ships from countries that were not officially part of the war” (study.com 1). Germany was relentless, not even hesitating to sink ships that were from neutral countries. This led to an infuriated United States, who strongly opposed this policy and asked Germany to stop.…
The spark of the Great War was the assassination of the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. In many people’s eyes, there were four causes to World War I. They were nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and the alliance system. Through the alliances, the world became involved in the war. The two opposing forces were the Central Powers and the Triple Alliance.…
For Germany, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary was their reason. For the United States, it was the signing of the Lusitania Ferdinand was assassinated in the summer of 1914 by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo. Ferdinand's assassination created immense tension between Germany and Russia. As mentioned before, Germany had been looking for any excuse to dominate Europe, so they used the tragedy of Austria-Hungary's heir as reason to start mobilizing their allies.…
Serbia has Germany while Austria had Russia, this led to France and England also getting involved due to their alliance. The underlying cause of WW1 was nationalism, but what sparked the fire hidden behind the whole war was the Fatal Assassination of Archduke…
World War 1 World War 1 the first war to involve multiple countries in a war, newspapers called it the war to end all wars. Countries gathering up millions of young men to go into battle, and kill each other, generations of young men killed. World War 1 caused Germany to become bankrupt, in making guns and large weapons to kill. The main cause of World War 1 was the assassination of one man called Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Setting off a chain of events leading up to World War 1 that would end with millions dead and wounded for life.…
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand was the beginning of the Great War because for a long time Bosnia wanted to secede from Austrian Rule to join the independent state of Serbia. Austria would not let them do that so a group of Bosnian Serbs got together and assassinated the heir to the Austro- Hungarian throne. The relationships between Austria and Serbia and Austria and Germany along with Russia and Serbia lead to an even greater conflict and eventually to World War I. Austria and Serbia had a tense relationship because they were trying to suppress the Slavic influence because it was becoming a threat to their multi-ethnic empire. While Serbia and Russia had a close relationship as it was one of the biggest supporters of the Slavic nationalist movements. Because of the deep ties that Austria had with Germany, led Germany to go against the Serbs.…
Nationalism, Imperialism, and Militarism There were many overlapping causes behind World War I. To begin with, Serbian nationalism and Pan-Slavism led to a desire of the Serbian people to expand Serbia to include several Balkan states and territories that were populated by Slavic people but under rule by the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. This desire for Slavic independence was supported by Russia (who also had a military alliance with Serbia), and was naturally opposed by Austria-Hungary (which had alliances with Germany and Italy), since it would actually weaken their empire. Conversely, nationalism helped unite and strengthen the German speaking territories of Central Europe and the Italian speaking nation-states of the southern peninsula.…
By 1914, everyone had figured out the lines and if Germany stood with Austria-Hungary then Russia’s Allies (France, Britain) were going to join the fight. This was all caused by the July Ultimatum, mostly because of Germany’s intentions to start a war to defends its interests in the area. To conclude, The July Ultimatum was created by Austria-Hungary with the full support of Germany and their ideas of defending their nationalism which caused tension between every European power which was eventually going to lead to war, even it was just a local war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. World War 1 was like a volcano, just waiting to explode and the July Ultimatum was like the match that made it go…
On a morning when no one expected it planes flew by with a strange logo on its wing and a strange color that ain't our planes. Off of the wing paper flew off the wings in everyones lawn saying something about Hitler. Soon sirens went off, it went for a peaceful morning of the worst day ever. Soon the bombs started and soldiers running down the street fully armored holding guns ran down the streets.…

German wanted a navy to compete with Britain, and to be seen as a dominate nation. The British had a war of their own against the Zulu Kingdom in Africa.…
