She was also given extra practice in reading, developing abstract thinking skills, and activities that help build a stronger vocabulary. One of her strengths was her own will to help herself. She realize the more she does the more proficient she will be and works hard in order to succeed. Unlike the other students Adams learning deficiency was caught later on. Adam struggled with the most basic reading, writing, and spelling.…
Esky struggled with many issues from his students. Mr. Russ is a first year teacher working with a diverse group of students. He noticed within the first week of school that the majority of his students that come from low-income homes are having problems academically due to lack of motivation and self-efficacy. When confronting a particular student’s parents about her issues in motivation, the parent began to argue that it was just their way of life. She was not going to precede any future in her education then she was required and really did not need education to begin with.…
Dear Kiarra Elliott (Scholarship and Awards Coordinator): I am writing today for my cousin to be considered for the Society Little Leaders Award. I am a full-time student currently in my senior year at Bloomfield College majoring in Psychology. Moreover, I will be inducted into The National Society of Leadership and Success in April. Furthermore, I am hardworking and truly motivated in my studies. In the same way, I have numerous years of experiences working with children with or without disabilities.…
Forrester was able to teach and mentor Jamal by utilizing social learning which suggests that individuals can learn through observation and direct contact. Due to the nature of their relationship, Forrester was able to enhance Jamal’s ability to learn and understand a higher level of writing and…
Written Summary I am very thankful for this experience counseling with adolescents. I have avoided working with adolescents because I am still quite young myself and was always anxious about the interaction and how they would respond to me. Essentially, the purpose of these videos was to develop a rapport with an adolescent and establish a functional counseling relationship. I was able to use listening skills that showed Matt that I was interested in what he was saying and was actually hearing him not just listening.…
The road to learning for American children (K-12) is currently filled with potholes and obstacles which prevent students from learning to their full potential and from progressing from one grade level to the next based on knowledge acquired. Many children are promoted each year despite their lack of meeting grade level expectations. I speak for my friend who barely graduated from high school and is now lucky to have a menial job working for Walmart. I speak for my cousin who could have used more help in school and now has five children, possibly destined to live off the state. I speak for my neighbor, a little girl in the fifth grade and only reading at a third grade level while the school refuses to provide extra help because she is progressing.…
I have had the pleasure of teaching Jacob in class for two years; in Pre-Calculus as a sophomore and currently as a junior in AP Calculus AB. Jacob's greatest strength in class is his inquiring attitude. He has a unique ability to analyze and reflect on the problem-solving process. While solving complex mathematics problems, he will refine and improve his problem-solving strategy until he obtains the correct solution. When I give his assessments back, Jacob critically examines his mistakes to learn from them often sharing his findings with his peers.…
My parents relocated my siblings and I from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to San Diego, California in order to allow us to lead a prosperous future. Unlike children in Guatemala, we were presented with an excellent education in San Diego and indulged in learning. For as long as I can recall, discovering new facts and learning new things about the world fascinated me; consequently, I quickly began wanting to help others in their pursuit of learning. I was always the first to offer help to my struggling peers and would stay behind during recess to assist them. My acts were fueled by the desire to see students succeed and I would do anything to help them prosper.…
Over the past four Christmases I worked with other teens who share the same feeling of responsibility to helping underprivileged students. These students were 9 years old and had to learn in overcrowded classroom on empty stomachs when learning can be a struggle in of itself. However, it does not have to be that way. Many of the children just needed further individual support and care, to give them the motivation needed to reach their full potential. These students from the public education system were similar to flowers.…
I would like to extend my sincerest thanks for taking your time to consider my candidacy for the Educational Psychology/School Psychology program at the University of Wisconsin. I have always been drawn to behavioral psychology, the phenomenon of learning, and educational processes. After discovering that I had a special talent for working with children and at-risk youth, I eagerly began my academic pursuit in elementary education. With ever-increasing learning demands, and limited time and resources, I quickly learned that inevitably some children fail to perform adequately among their peers. This reality came quite clear to me through my experience working and substitute teaching in a public elementary school.…
Although I grew up with an American influence in my household, my family and Vietnamese culture has encouraged me to attain greater aspirations for myself and to become a better influence for a younger generation. Growing up with a very predominant Vietnamese influence within my household impacted every aspect of my daily life, from how I was raised as a child to how I see the world currently. Many things played a role in shaping me, for example my family and culture. I was raised by a single mom giving me a different outlook. My mom taught me that no matter what happens in the course of life, I have to be able to count on myself; she raised me to be independent and to stand on my own two feet.…
While working as a tutor at Kumon, I had the opportunity to interact with students from a wide array of educational backgrounds. Working with children not only broadened my ability to teach and communicate with others, but also helped me relate and empathize with them as their mentor. Working as a tutor helped develop my self-confidence, as I felt that I was making a difference in the academic lives of the students that I interacted with. In the same way that I view my lab mentor, Patricia G. Cipriani, as a figure of guidance, the students that I worked with viewed me as a figure of support whenever they needed help. Being the tutor, rather than the student, helped me develop perspectives on the role a mentor, or teacher, plays in a student's career.…
In this case study, Rich Thorpe is an extremely passionate first-year teacher at West Alton High School. Rich was very grateful to have received this job, and has put a lot of effort into his teaching, despite the pressures of a first year teacher. For the first three quarters of the year, he has had good classroom management skills, and his students respect him as a teacher. He clearly spends time thinking about his students because when he noticed a few of them were struggling toward the end of the year he became concerned and wanted to help them out, especially since their behaviors effected the entire class.…
According to the NASW dictionary, termination is “the conclusion of the social worker –client intervention process; a systematic procedure for disengaging the working relationship. It occurs when goals are reached, when the specified time for working has ended, or when the client is no longer interested in continuing.” (Felton & Polowy, 2015) Termination is an important, yet difficult process the worker and client go through. The ending phrase can trigger deeper feelings in both the client and worker.…
