Artifacts found, literary sources, oral sources, local knowledge, and lack of knowledge are five reasons an area may undergo a scientific study. Locals may find artifacts or relic throughout a piece of land, village, or city. When pieces of history are found archeologists may take an interest in that because it could lead them back in time to conclude something from the past or even bring something new about. Old literary sources or books have provided information of settlement locations for archeologists. This provides archeologists with information that has not yet been documented for future or past references. Oral sources usually are provided by locals. Archeologist will communicate with locals to discover stories about the past that may enable the truth about certain information. Archeologists found that oral sources can sometimes lead to the truth or nothing at all. Local knowledge can fit in with oral sources or artifacts found. They are similar because local knowledge comes from locals who may find something interesting they would like to share visually or orally with an archeologist. Although, local knowledge is not exactly the same because it’s not a story or an object they found, but a piece of history that has been around for a while. Local knowledge is a local that knows where an archeologist may be able to find something of importance. Lack of knowledge is
