Sometime during the first semester, I read an article about the use of Bloom’s Questioning Stems in the classroom. I also went to a conference on differentiation that also presented information about using Bloom’s Taxonomy with students. What was presented made me change my thinking about how to completely implement my goal. It was said in the article and at the conference that it did not matter what level of questioning a student choose to use, only that they were using some sort of questioning. The level of questioning depending on the materials that were given to the student and does not correlate to a certain level of intelligence.
As a result of this new information, I continued to use Blooms Stems in my lessons, but I choose to drop goal setting related to getting to a higher level. Most of the lessons I use frequently come from reading an article from Newsela because of the features Newsela offers for data collection. As a class, we often think-pair-share and go into a group discussion, after Reading a Newsela article. In past lesson, I have consistently used the quiz feature and Lexile level feature. Going forward, I plan to have students respond to prompts through Newsela (instead of on paper), as well as, use the annotation feature to track the students thinking.
