The Grand Canyon One of the most visited landscapes in the world is the Grand Canyon. Along with the Grand Canyon being absolutely beautiful, it has many mysteries even scientists are not certain about, including how it was made, exactly how old it is, and many more questions remain. The rocks on the grounds of the Grand Canyon offer a breathtaking revelation of the earth's history (Euler, Tikalsky 17). Surprisingly there have been seven hundred deaths that have occurred in the Grand Canyon, but the Grand Canyon is still a safe place for a family vacation. Some scientists believe that the canyon was formed by erosion. Erosion is when air, wind, and snow storms tear away at rock. Other scientist believe that the Colorado River carved out the Canyon. Today, scientists still do not agree on how the canyon was made. Another fact about the Grand Canyon is that the walls of the Grand Canyon contain prehistoric rocks. Some of the rocks are from two million years ago (“Let’s take a look at Arizona”). Something else many people would not expect is that surprisingly people have lived in the Grand Canyon for 5,000 years or more, some of these people were Indians. The Grand Canyon is frequently visited. Researchers estimate that around five million people visit the Grand Canyon yearly. When visitors first come to the Grand Canyon they start their tour at the South Rim. Many people have died at the Grand Canyon. More than seven hundred people have died at the Grand Canyon. On an average, around twelve people die yearly. This year eighteen people have already died. The majority of the people who have died at the Grand Canyon were men hopping along rocks to take pictures. Two of the deaths this year were from falling over the rim. The edges may look harmless, but there are still many thing to avoid. Although the Grand Canyon has had 700 deaths recorded, it is still a safe place to visit. It is one of nature’s greatest monuments
