It has been a constant experience at TGH. There is so much to learn about other cultures by part of doctors, nurses, and staff. Fortunately, my life experiences have helped me understand how other people experience grief and suffering and how they might react. That helped me being confident when I had to minister to them. For instance, Hispanic and African American people react in ways that might be understood as disruptive and aggressive. That could freak a lot people out if they do not understand their culture. Several theology classes have been helpful for me in order to understand the process of suffering from the Christian perspective. However, I did not take enough time to reflect on these topics in the seminary. I thought these ideas were too far from me. I was these theories were for people at a hospital or for funerals. I have seen him helping several people in different circumstances at the hospital, in church, and in the street. These are values that I see as natural in him. I think this is his biggest strength. In this road to the priesthood and during his life as a priest these are values that people will love to see. His compassion and charity without any interest are powerful qualities that he must exercise at all times.
Stephen
Stephen taught me the value of family. Many of our conversations in group related to him were about family. That showed me he cares for his family and that is why he has been reflecting on issues of his family life. I think his biggest strength is his love for community. That shows he is in the right path. This love for community brings more fruits, such as charity, compassion, caring, etc.
6. My Supervisor
Waleska was a great support for my process and the group’s. My individual supervision sessions were very helpful because she helped me understand several issues in my life that I was not able to see. Her insights and clarifications allowed me to reflect deeper on my own life and personal experiences. Those conversations were the most helpful in my CPE experience and I thank her for the teachings and experiences she shared with
