The movies Groundhog Day, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Star Trek-Insurrection, and There’s Something About Mary are all very well known, but differ immensely in several aspects. With that being said, there is one thing that all these movies have in common; they all feature compositions from the eighteenth-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This review will cover the life of Mozart, his education, his compositions, and his musical achievements. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 in Salzburg (which is now a city in Austria) and passed away on December 5, 1791 at the age of 35. His father, Leopold Mozart, was a composer; his mother was Anna Maria Mozart. Mozart only had one sibling survive past infancy, Maria Anna Mozart, …show more content…
During this time Mozart composed numerous violin concertos, as well as piano concertos. After a fall out with the court, Mozart became unemployed which led to him and his parents becoming poor. Because of lack of funds and failure to reach out to a doctor, Mozart’s mother, Anna Maria, passed away in 1778 due to sickness. In 1781, Mozart moved to Vienna and started working as a solo performer. During this time, many of his most famous compositions were written, as well as performed. In total, Mozart composed over 600 works, including 21 stage and opera works, 15 masses, more than 50 symphonies, 25 piano concertos, 12 violin concertos, and many many more. His early opera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) written in 1782, became very well known and was played throughout Europe. This opera proved that not only was Mozart a genius piano player, he was also a genius composer. Written in 1783, his Mass in C Minor was his most popular mass composition. This piece, like many others, was featured with Mozart's wife, Constanze, singing the vocals. Mozart met Joseph Haydn in 1784 and the two soon became very good friends. Both Mozart and Haydn had a tremendous influence in the Classical Period. Mozart’s concerts soon began to make great wages, allowing his to change his lifestyle.
