Fear makes bullying among adolescents rampant in our age. Many adolescents are afraid that if they inform anyone or find for help it will make the situation worse. But this is false. While being afraid, bullying victims most of the times prevent themselves from sharing their problems with school counsellors or their parents because they are self-conscious on how people might treat them. They also do not want others to know they are suffering from bullying in schools. Adolescents who are being bullied needs to be cared and supported by their parents. When we look at the advantages, Group counselling assures members that they and other members share the same problems and struggles. Group counselling gives the chance to both receive and to give a shoulder to others in times of need. Getting support from other members is part of the bonding or therapeutic alliance that happens in groups and this allows for gaining knowledge and growth. The therapeutic alliance that happens in group counselling is greater than what happens in individual counselling. Group counselling helps a member to create communication skills and socialization skills and lets members learn how to relate their problems and allow and accept criticism from other people. Group counselling provides members to create self-awareness by hearing others with the same issues that they have and while doing so it itself is therapeutic. Group counselling gives a safe environment for members who may be scared to discuss their feelings or weaknesses. CBT is effective in reducing symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder in teens. It’s important that when counsellors use CBT with adolescents that they meet them where they are in their development stage and that the activities, assignments and sessions are relevant and applicable to their lives. Adolescents have a way to focus on what’s going on right now in their lives, so that’s the frame of reference you’re working with. What’s happening right now is what’s ruining their lives.
