“For every criminal killed in self-defense, 34 innocent people die” (Washington Post). Gun control is a huge controversial topic being discussed currently in America. The US has “88.8 guns per 100 people”, which means that “22% of Americans own one or more guns” (ProCon). Advocates of creating more “gun control laws state that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions”(ProCon). Adversaries say that “the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns; that guns are needed for self-defense from threats ranging from local criminals to foreign invaders; and that gun ownership deters crime rather than causes more crime” (ProCon). Gun control laws should be less restrictive over gun ownership for reasons such as: the fact that the US constitution gives us the rights to bear arms, and gun control laws infringe upon the

If people have a gun available to them, they should be able to fight a criminal back more effectively instead of having little strength to fight against them. Having a gun would give an individual self defense to fight against a dangerous criminal (who may have a gun on hand), and also would ensure them the safety they need feel comfortable. Statistics show that “61% of men and 56% of women surveyed by Pew Research said that stricter gun laws would ‘make it more difficult for people to protect their homes and families’" (Bruce). Guns are a very helpful resource in providing enough protection for individuals and their families. They ensure much safety to many people.
