today i want to start of my telling you about the events leading up to my famous surrender of the army of north virginia. well it had been a bloody 4 year war i saw my country men lay down their lives and that we were just being beaten and bullied. We were in a 45 mile of trenching sistum between richmond and petersburg we were there from february 5 - april 2 there was a lot that happin my men where geting beten up and I said that we needed to leave but the winter had made the roads sloppy and almost impassable. we had to wait for the roads to driy oout april secont we started to pull out trying to out run grant it was are only chanch. my last holp was to link up the genral Jospeh Johnston in north carlins.
