He since recently lost all needs on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, he started out in the actualization stage, which is the best stage, and began deteriorate fast. He first lost his esteem for his inability to work, then he lost his emotional needs, then he lost his safety needs Kafka wrote, “Then his father gave him a hefty shove from behind which released him from where he was held and sent him flying, and heavily bleeding, deep into his room. The door was slammed shut with the stick, then,finally, all was quiet.” which shows his father hitting him, which would cause Gregor to lose the safety needs. and finally he lost his physiological needs when he stopped getting food or any care. After he lost all these thing it was not going to continue for long, and it didn't, soon after he’s pushed into his room for the final time, he losses his pain, he then dies. This goes to show that when you don't have at least a couple of the needs on maslow's hierarchy of needs it is impossible to live for very
