In the research done by Dr. Crase a The 17% of the participants have lost a parent before the age of 15. “The denial of death, serves as a significant source for discussions of death fear”(qtd in Crase and Dixie R).17% of the 1991 participants experienced parental loss. “While death is a traumatic experience and a difficult blow to a child, the nature of emotional and behavioral changes that may occur in later life must be viewed within the context of several variables, not just the death loss itself”(qtd in Crase and Dixie R.). From the research done the loss of parents relates to poor self related health. Children can have a very dramatic experience when it comes to losing a parent because most parents have little to no conversation with their children about death. The reason for neglecting the children from the conversation about death is because it can terrify a child and possibly could cause death anxiety. Although many parents tend to shield their child away from the thought of death it would be beneficial if they weren 't. When someone knows that they are possibly going to lose their parents to such as cancer it can be harder because they know that they are going to leave them and there is nothing they can do about it.Parents can possibly leave something to help cope such as letters or such to try and be apart of their life even though they are not there in person. Similar parental loss can cause problems such as death anxiety especially when a parent is in the military because it can be a little harder to understand for child why someone would wanna take their parent away. Learning to cope is essential because there are two different routes a person can take whether it be the unhealthy way of coping or healthy way of coping. Losing a parent to cancer or losing a parent in the Military can cause a lot of problems for time to come and the way they cope can determine what kind of life that person will have. Coping may be hard for a child but thinking about what their parent would want could save their
