Napoleon spent the first 9 years of his life in Corsica where he was born. At 9 years old Napoleon receive a scholarship to go to a French military school. He became a general in the French military in 1796 at 27 years old. During his first battle as general he defeated the Austrians and gained more land for France. Napoleon became very popular with the people of France and was recognized as a national hero which led to him being crowned Emperor in 1804. As emperor Napoleon wanted to make France a place of equality and wealth. Some of his first actions as Emperor included creating the Napoleonic Code, a national bank, making a fair tax code, building roads, canals, schools, and universities.
