How Does Julius Caesar Relate To A Christmas Carol

After this semester, having read To Kill A Mockingbird, Julius Caesar, and A Christmas Carol, I decided that the primary criteria I had set for my enjoyment of literature included literary voice and expression of relevant themes. Through comparison, the eventual, albeit shaky, prevalence of Julius Caesar over A Christmas Carol became clear. To Kill A Mockingbird fell to last place, due to its sharp contrast from the style of writing that appeals to me. Julius Caesar was highly enjoyable to me because of its thematic political messages and realistic premise. The characters, although not necessarily loveable, were representative of certain prominent traits in society and rounded out the play well. With detailed and thorough discussion of underlying meanings in the prose of Julius Caesar, I was able to better appreciate it as a masterpiece of suspense and political accuracy. With precise and elegant portrayals of human nature, concise but impactful language, and an interesting plot, Julius Caesar impressed me the most out of the literature I read this semester. …show more content…
This story was highly entertaining, and Dickens’ word choice depicted Ebenezer Scrooge’s character very well. Additionally, instead of simply registering disbelief in readers, the appearance of the spirits instead formed the emotional backbone of the novella. Key plot elements in the story relied on the ideas of metamorphosis and compassion, two motifs which I strongly identified with. I enjoyed A Christmas Carol for a very opposite reason compared to why I liked Julius Caesar. With A Christmas Carol, I was able to leisurely read and interpret the story as I saw fit. With Julius Caesar, I read the book with the intent to dissect and analyze it.
