This story was highly entertaining, and Dickens’ word choice depicted Ebenezer Scrooge’s character very well. Additionally, instead of simply registering disbelief in readers, the appearance of the spirits instead formed the emotional backbone of the novella. Key plot elements in the story relied on the ideas of metamorphosis and compassion, two motifs which I strongly identified with. I enjoyed A Christmas Carol for a very opposite reason compared to why I liked Julius Caesar. With A Christmas Carol, I was able to leisurely read and interpret the story as I saw fit. With Julius Caesar, I read the book with the intent to dissect and analyze it.
