How Is Edgar Allan Poe Crazy

First things first Edgar Allan Poe was a very dark and creepy writer. Most of his stories consist of death or strange things happening. In some of the stories he writes, he talks about not being mad, even know they all sound like he is mad. Poe makes comments that makes him sound very crazy, for example in the story “The Tell Tale Heart” the narrator says he didn’t want to kill the man but he must have to because of his horrible looking eye. Throughout the story he often refers to the eye as it being “evil”. They said after he died that he had a disease that made him like this and that would explain why he always wrote about death and dark things. The disease is thought to be a lesion on his brain which could again explain his weird and odd …show more content…
Poe signed up for a five year term in the US Army. He had also written a few poems during this time but the book failed to attract any attention. Before he left the army he asked his fellow cadets if they all would give him a dollar and a quarter to help publish his book. Poe arrived in New York in February 1831 and released his first book called “Poems” and dedicated it to his fellow …show more content…
However the story “The Cask of Amontillado” is a very good story, I like suspenseful things. The reason I chose this story as my favorite between the two is because I truly understand this story better than any of the ones he has written before, in which I have read. It gives specific detail and goes in depth of how the man dies, I actually understand what's going on throughout the text. As I examined Edgar Allan Poe’s stories and life I learned many things, including that he possibly had a lesion on his brain which could explain his writing. After reading Poe’s biography I realized how writing really connects with one's personal life. As I previously stated we learned many interesting things about Poe including that he is an interesting man, and I hope to learn

Edgar Allan Poe often demonstrates a type of madness in his short stories. Many times it comes from the first-person narrator. While the narrators are similar in the fact that they are both insane, they also have a lot of differences in the way that they are insane. A great way to compare the way the insanity differs in the narrators, is to compare two of Poe’s stories. Stories such as “The Black Cat” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” do a good job showing the similarities and differences between the insanity in both of the stories, as well as the insanity in other short stories of Edgar Allan Poe’s.…
