How My Small Town Has Impacted My Life

Decent Essays
I was born in a small town in Mississippi on April 2, 2001. I am now a sixteen year old Junior at a small, local private school, of about 250 students. I am actively involved in my local church, where I am apart of the youth group and the choir. I have been a member of my school’s softball team for five years and the track team for three years. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, singing, doing photography, doing anything outdoors, and spending time with my friends and family. I also love participating in my school’s show choir. I love volunteering at my sister’s school, Magnolia Speech School, and teaching my school’s first grade through third grade girls to dance. My small town has impacted my life so much, because you know almost everyone,

Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

CRR #7 Observations: In the reading Our Town by Thornton Wilder I felt the feeling of being included in the audience because he gives us the layout at the beginning. Another detail that contributes to this feeling of being included is by having the stage manager speak directly to us. When he starts describing the town and how small it is it reminds me of Porterville and how nothing really happens there or here. I find it sad when the stage manager tells us about all the things Joe is going to accomplish but ends up dying in the war.…

What happens when you put a big city girl from Dallas in a small town like DeRidder Louisiana? Absolutely nothing. But what happens when the small town has a colorful scary secret? They say curiosity killed the cat but they never said it killed a person and from that logic I turned this tedious town into one of the most engrossing towns in Louisiana. Every year my family and I drive six long and enervating hours to our cousin’s house in DeRidder, in a small cube like car, with two large brothers and me in the middle.…

Adaptation of Our Town Of the three versions of Our Town that we viewed in class, the PBS 2003 version best portrayed what the author Thornton Wilder wanted. Our Town is quite a unique play due to the fact that unlike most play’s the Stage Manager is on the stage rather than behind the scenes. The Stage Manager is also a character in the play itself and acts as a narrator in the play, so he talks directly to the audience the majority of the time. This unique characteristic allows a director to make frequent creative choices that can create a variety of different versions of the play for audience members to view The NBC 1977 version of Our Town was not the least akin to what Thornton Wilder wanted, but it was my personal least favorite.…
