What Is The Importance Of Differentiated Instruction

“Excellence in education is when we do everything that we can to make sure they become everything that they can.” This is a quote from 2012 by Carol Ann Tomlinson, the founder of differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction is not a new concept, it has been done by teachers for decades but not by all teachers, most were teaching to the middle, the average student, Tomlinson taught teachers how to teach to all the students, not just the majority. Since then, several educators have taken the reins and written their own books about differentiated instruction. Every book has its own tricks and tips to for teachers on how to differentiate instruction. One of those books is, How the Best Teachers Differentiate Instruction. The title is very telling. The book was written by Elizabeth Breaux and Monique Magee in 2010. Breaux is a former classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator, now she gives speeches on differentiated instruction. She strives to simply difficult teaching tactics so all teachers can benefit from her lessons. Magee is a school administrator and currently principal. Before that she was a classroom teacher as well. Both authors have immense knowledge working in the educational field.
How the Best Teachers Differentiate Instruction started off by explaining why differentiated instruction is so important. They stressed that every child learns differently and therefore needs to be taught differently. They stressed the importance of catering to different learning styles and capabilities of each student.
