From a promised made over a year ago by the directors of the Metropolitan Water District (MWD), the Desert Compadres 4-H Club were finally granted the opportunity to visit Los Angeles and attend a special MWD board meeting on Tuesday, June 13. Traveling several times a year to Blythe to tour its desert facilities at Gene Camp, the Palo Verde Irrigation District Diversion Dam and the Palo Verde Valley itself, MWD representatives completed their tour for the day at the local hay press at HayDay Farms, where they were later served lunch by the 4-H Club. Dressed in their uniforms, the members of the Horse Project, were given the opportunity to not only serve at this luncheon, but also led the representatives into reciting the Pledge of Allegiance…
The four to five vote in favor of hiring a new principal for Haraway High School and tenure applications of a dozen teachers, were the highlights of last night’s meeting at the city school board. The school board search committee narrowed the selection list of more than 40 applicants to the most qualified two candidates, current assistant principal Juli McCorvey and Mike Coleman a principal from Louisiana. Coleman earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Backwater State University in Tennessee. Louisiana is where Coleman was born, raised and where he’s been principal of Sandy Bar High School for ten years.…
Isaac is a 10-year-old fourth grade student at Rowayton Elementary School in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is a year older than his peers because he was retained in Kindergarten due to lack of sufficient progress in both reading and math. While in first through second grades he struggled with reading skills, but was always able to meet benchmark goals throughout the school year. In third grade, Isaac could not meet benchmark goals consistently and he was entered into the SRBI process. He has since been receiving intervention primarily in reading and writing on a daily basis.…
Dear Manager, I think that the students of Read Mountain middle school could benefit from going to the CDC. The CDC is a disease control and prevention center. I believe if students went to the CDC they could decide if they want to do something in related fields. In my opinion, the students of Read Mountain Middle school should visit the CDC because they could decide if they want to do something similar in the future, the CDC is one of the leading centers in the U.S., and the CDC has many different job options within the scientific field. At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school years, A.C. Reynolds High School (ACR) had a total enrollment of 1,369 students with 52% of the population being male and 48% female. The ethnic make-up of the school was predominately Caucasian (80% of the student population), followed by 10% African American, 4% Multiracial, 4% Hispanic and less than 1% Asian or Native American. Students who attend ACR live in the suburban area around the city of Asheville including Fairview, Arden, Fletcher, and Haw Creek. On June 06, 2016, at about 0942 hours, a tip was received about individuals trespassing on Hamblen County School Board property behind Lincoln Middle School, 219 Lincoln Avenue. Upon investigation Barbara Morgan-Tyler was found ot have established a camp within the wooded area that was clearly posted with no trespassing signs. Mrs. Tyler advised that she had been told that the property belonged to the school, moreover, she advised she had knowledge she was not allowed to be on the property because another property owner had given her. A call was make to Dr. Dale Lynch to confirm the Hamblen County Board of Education has placed the signs on the property, moreover, if they wanted Mrs. Morgan-Tyler cited for her actions.…
Ever since Gale Ranch opened, there has been a school dress code. Gale Ranch students melted into a pool of anger and are now breaking it. Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

Another solution or technique that can be used to improve the “school-to-pipeline” challenges is to improve the way children, especially at-risk children, are disciplined in school. The concept of detention can be ameliorated. When children get in trouble in schools and are sent to detention, it is perceived with shame and humiliation. Changing the techniques used to discipline children in detention can help children learn from their mistakes rather than reinforce the image of them being “bad”. Having a class of children in detention and having them learn to use coping skills or having them speak to peer mentors to help them address their problems or work towards a solution is better than having children sit there for an hour doing nothing.…
Preparing ahead is strongly encouraged and extremely helpful in the long run. Part of preparation is knowing what to expect and by informing junior high students or even elementary students of what to expect we can prepare them for what is to come. College is a very defining point in our lives as it determines what we occupation we will major in our future. Preparing kids for college at a young age is an excellent thing to do, but it is all about how you approach the situation. Even the thought of college at that age can be overwhelming and attempting to prepare them for that to early could result in a lot of stress.…
Group Inventories also known as QRI-5 (Witter, 2013, pp. 55-56) are group reading assessments that are great when time is scarce or the size of the class is large. Results from this assessment can be used to estimate students’ reading levels, to group students for guided reading sessions, or to choose appropriate books for literacy circles, reading workshops, and independent reading. (Passages, p. 1) Group Inventories requires the student to read a passage to themselves, followed by the answering of comprehension questions. If the student does pretty well with the comprehension results then they require a harder passage.…

There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon). It also seems that homework is being forced onto younger students more often than the older ones.
