My hunger pains me, yet I don’t have enough energy to hunt. What’s the point anyway the mice and birds around here are about as malnourished as I am; you’d have to catch around ten for a filling meal and I dont have the energy for that. I have to keep going because he may return someday. I must live on. I get so preoccupied with my thoughts that I stop paying attention to my surroundings. Today starts to remind me a lot of the day it happened, the same somber mood fills the air. What if….
“OW,” I yelp in surprise and shock as some human steps on my tail.
I glance behind me to see people flooding the town square. I can’t be bothered to ponder what these humans are here to do so I continue to look for food, but know that I won’t find much, if any at all. Just because i don’t want to think about something, doesn’t stop me from doing so. Maybe just maybe today is the day...

I abandon my plan to find some food and start looking for a tree so I can watch whatever is about to happen.
I see a tree in the far corner of the town square. I weave my way through the mess of human over to that tree. I struggle as I try to pull myself up the branches of the frail tree but i have to get high enough to see what’s going on. By the time I reach the top of the tree the thing had just started. From here I can see it all. I scan the crowd for the one who use to take care of me, but i can’t find
