I Want To Be Independent Research Paper

Improved Essays
Throughout my life, I have had many different ideas of what career I should aim to have when I finish my education and become an independent. In early elementary school, I remember wanting to be an artist “when I grew up,” and for all of middle school, I was almost obsessed with the idea of owning my own bakery and decorating cakes when I graduated from school. It wasn’t really until high school until I gave any serious thought to what type of career I should stride towards, or any serious thought to what meaning I wanted my life to have.
In high school, I took many interesting and challenging classes, got to know a lot of very good teachers, and got involved in a multitude of diverse extracurricular activities. Though my experiences, I learned

What do you remember from high school? Friends, sports, pep rallies, standardized tests. You wouldn 't normally think of standardized tests when thinking of things you remember from high school, but for many students that struggled with them in high school it is a large part of their high school experience. We should stop using Standardized tests in Texas schools because they have changed the way teachers teach in a detrimental way, have delayed students’ graduations, add unneeded stress to students’ and put a strain on already tight school budgets.…

When I was in high school I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do. I always knew I liked computers but, when I was freshman I never really thought about making it into a career. In high school I really didn’t have a goal I wanted to attain because I really didn’t know what I wanted to be. So without a goal, I really didn’t have a drive to do well in school. Fast forward to the middle of junior year and my group of friends would be discussing what we wanted to after high school.…

Most teenagers dream of the day they reach 18 years old to move out of their parents’ home and become independent. I was one of those teenagers. I couldn’t wait to move out and to do whatever I wanted to do and whenever I wanted to do it and feel independent. When I purchased a black vase from the Home Interiors catalog with my own money I felt independent.…

If I was granted the opportunity to write a book the theme would be independence. My book would be a young adult novel explaining the importance of putting yourself out there to gain new experiences. With this book I would hope that young people would read it and hope to have their own experiences to better themselves too. Being independent is a trait that many need to have in order to grow in this world. You have to be able to take tasks by the reins and do things without needing assistance from others.…

My name is Carlos Aceves my research paper will be on discussing the pros and cons of Independent work or Corporate / Franchise employment. The reason I chose this topic is very simple. Being recently retired from the United States Military after 21 years of active service, my best way to enjoy my retirement is to choose to work independently, than to be working a 40 plus hour a week than just working at your own pace and time. Choosing independent work for me is that I will always have some time on my hands so I can keep occupied.…

Throughout the seventeen years of my life, I have just gone with the flow. I lived a passionless existence, never really having a desire for anything. I was, honestly, a little jealous of the people who knew exactly what they wanted to do with their future. I felt embarrassed that I seemed to be the only one who, in high school, still did not know what to do with themselves. Good grades came easily to me and I felt I had all the choices in the world, but what?…

Most humans feel the need to be independent in their lifetimes, whether they become too prideful for help or are so controlled they desire to be free from control leading to independence. On average, independence is granted to adolescents in high school. Teenagers learn how to drive, hang out with friends without supervision and are trusted to make their own choices. Independence is usually granted at this age so for most teenagers it’s a noteworthy moment of when your parents first set you free. This was not the instance for me, since both of my parents are deaf I had to learn to be independent much younger in life.…

If I knew how to predict the future I don’t think I’d be sitting here on a Sunday afternoon writing this essay at the last minute. Sadly, I don’t have a crystal ball or tarot cards to predict to tell me what the future has in store for me. I think that’s what makes the future so scary, the fact that nothing is guaranteed. Just like any little kid, I wanted to grow up and be something. When I was younger, I recall having dreams of being a baker or a singer and sometimes a weather girl.…

College isn’t something that’s for everyone, my parents made sure I knew that right from the start. With no expectations of me and no real consequences at home for not trying in school, one would think I wouldn’t try, right? Wrong. I set expectations for myself, and made sure I met them. Grades and ACT scores have never been something I could show off to anyone, until now.…

Independent. When I was younger, I really wasn’t an “independent” type of person. I always seemed to rely on someone else, and could never seem to do things on my own. Like always expecting my mother would have a home cooked meal when I came home from school in third and fourth grade. Or when I when I got older, say twelve or thirteen years old, -about the time I was able to do stupid things with my stupid friends- when I relied on my father to give me an allowance of 20 dollars every week.…

    1. List ONE important event or experience that is memorable to you and briefly tell why this would be important to a college admissions committee. As a member of SMART (Students Modeling a Research Topic) Team, I had the opportunity to go to Boston, to attend the Experimental Biology Conference, to present my literary research/review on the CFTR protein (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator Protein). After working for many hours with my peers researching and forming a poster, we presented our poster with our model protein at the conference as one of few high school student posters in the undergraduate hall.…

I grew up very independently, teaching myself how to do things on my own such as tie my shoes, ride a bicycle, and seeking out hobbies which allowed me to express my spirited personality. I joined a cultural club at College of Alameda where I was surrounded by a diverse and brilliant group of people. They showed me the importance of expressing who you are and what you believe in openly. It really stuck with me that I wanted to keep improving that aspect of my life. Since I was young I dreamt of finding a career where I was able to express myself through the power of words and use my creativity as an…
