Also, the Food Stamp program is income-tested and not given at random, therefore, I do believe illegal immigrants should be granted food benefits (North, 2012). However, I also agree that there should be a limit to how much and how long government assistance should be given. If they are working, trying to build an independent living, and they are paying their taxes at the end of each year, they should continue receiving these benefits. Ray, the average illegal immigrant is about 34 years old and may be eligible for up to 50 years of government assistance (Ray, 2014). Illegal immigrants should use the benefits granted to them to better themselves and their family rather than depend on them. With food stamps, healthcare, and free public education for their children they should take advantage of the opportunity and use it for good. Finding a job while the kids are in school is a big step. They should work toward gaining enough money to put food on the table and pay for medical care without government assistant.
