In fact Meursault killed a man. In The Stranger, Camus writes of how Meursault killed an Arab that had almost killed his friend Raymond Sintes because Raymond dated the Arab’s sister and beat her up for cheating. Though just because Meursault and Raymond were friends this was not the reason why Meursault killed the Arab. During his trial, Meursault confessed he killed the man because “it was because of the sun” (Camus, 103) as if this is any reasonable excuse for killing a man. Camus wrote The Stranger doing exactly that though, he made Meursault, the main character, not have any true emotions and not being able to connect to his past. He wanted to show his readers that it is important to have emotions even if it is not always the best feeling, but that they should do this so they have a passion for life.
