Marshal I. Pickens Hospital Background
Marshall I. Pickens Behavioral Health Hospital is a division of Greenville Memorial Hospital. The history of Greenville Memorial Hospital has a lengthy and influential history. Its essence was established on the foundations of being a nonprofit, patient centered, teaching and research facility dedicated to service (Centennial). At Marshall I. Pickens social workers aim to treat patients with mental disorders and any other comorbid diagnosis. The population in which the social workers serve ranges from adolescent to geriatric patients. This board of trustees is made up of 12 volunteer members such as business leaders, organization directors and other members who represent the county of Greenville (Centennial). This board of trustees plans functions, which are geared towards meeting the needs of patients and enhancing the diversity within Greenville Memorial Hospital. The Community Health Needs Assessment Board serves residents in Greenville County by working closely with members in the community. Pickens organizational issue. The social workers at Marshall I. Pickens play a vital role in diagnosing, treating and discharging patients. The case load they manage is overwhelming because they are short staff and they have a hard time meeting their quota. Ms.Cooke has been conducting interviews for a replacement, however she has not found a perfect fit for Marshall I. Pickens. The morale last year was high because the social workers were working as a team. However after one male social worker moved to a different department and the other completed suicide, the social workers have become selfish and only worry about their own well-being. In my opinion, when an organization is short staffed this is a time where the organization should team up even more. There are many strengths and weaknesses that I was able to explore within my field agency as far as the morale of the work
