As counselors, it is important to help them come to the realization that they have value in the eyes of God, they are not condemned, especially not for something there are not to be blame for. (p.217) As for Christian counselors, this principle applies in the same way, we need to serve God by helping these children with their needs, sometimes the most important thing these children need is to have someone who cares for them, someone who is willing to listen to them, or to just seat by their side and let them know they are not alone. To be Christlike is to treat them as Jesus would, and for a child who have been abused or abandoned, this is great step in their healing process, they need to feel loved and accepted for who they are in the eyes of Christ.
Application of this Integration Perspective to a Specific Psychological Issue The psychological issue chosen by this student is the suffering of abused and abandoned children, according to the Childhelp organization, “Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). (Childhelp, 2015) The same reports also concluded that every year, referrals to state child protective services involves 6.3 million children, these statistics are in the United States alone, and it is only the reported cases, many cases of abuse are unreported.
