He escape from Afghanistan, walked through the mountains between Iran and Turkey for 27 days, worked like a slave, and made his way to Italy. A 10-year old boy fought for his survival, when his mother abandoned him in Pakistan to fend for himself. He is Enaiatollah Akbadi (Enaiat).
He had to witness the murder of his teacher by the Talibans, his dad offended the Talibans and his entire family was targeted. Enaiat’s mother had to ensure he would have better chances and left him to take better care of his brother. Where he came from, he and his people were not accepted. They are the Hazara people, whose home at Afghanistan aren’t safe for them.

He lost friends, he met kind people and finally at the age of 15 years old, he managed to get political asylum in Italy. After learning Italian, he also met Fabio Geda, an Italian novelist who writes about children under duress. His story is now told through the book “In the Sea, There are Crocodiles” published in 2010.
Enaiat managed to get a happy ending, but there are still many currently suffering in Afghanistan, as well as other parts of the world.
The Hazara People in Afghanistan amount up to approximately 2.8 million people, which 9% of the total Afghanistan Population (UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency). The word ‘Hazara’ is believe to mean ‘thousand. In Afghanistan, the majority of Hazaras stay in a region called Hazarajat or Hazarestan which is described as rugged mountainous core of Afghanistan.
