Nevertheless, the efforts to fight for what is just were in vain, for even if a servant attained its freedom, the slaves suffered the consequences when the Virginia's Negro Act of 1705 was passed. The Virginia's Negro Act of 1705 addressed that any white servants who were mistreated had the right to sue their masters. However, for any enslaved person who tried to escape would be tortured and dismembered in order to prevent further jailbreaks. In addition, this act declared masters who murdered any slaves in the midst of punishment, free of any felony along with paid funds for the loss of property if slaves were killed or put to death by law.
